Report by Orissadiary bureau; Sambalpur: Hirakud Dam recorded an increase of about three ft in the water level over the last 24 hours. Sources said authorities to open up one of the sluice gates of the dam at around 4pm on Friday. At present, the water level in the dam stands at 609.41 ft as against its danger-level of 630 feet. While 22.21 mm of rain was recorded in the upper catchment area of the dam today, it was 89.20 mm in the downstream. Sources say water flow at Mundali was recorded at more than 6 lakh cusecs. Similarly, the water flow at Khairimal and Barimul stood at 3.85 lakh and 5.62 lakh cusecs, respectively.
However, the inflow of water to the dam stands at 2,14,184 cusecs which is much higher than the 93,363 cusecs yesterday .
