Report by Orissadiary correspondent; Bhubaneswar: Flood situation is grim in Orissa and five more persons died on Sunday in the torrential rains in Orissa taking the toll to 33, even as heavy downpour due to a fresh low pressure over the sea triggered floods in many parts of the state. While two persons were swept away in Rana river in Banki area of Cuttack district, two others, including a woman, were killed in lightning in Kendrapara district, official sources said. A young girl was killed in Kabisuryanagar area of Ganjam district when a tree fell on her during rain and storm.
Flood situation is grim at Western and Southern Orissa as major rivers including Mahanadi, Bansadhara, Rushikulya and Hati, Nagbali and others are in spate due to the torrential rains, triggered by low pressure over the North Bay of Bengal which lashed out for the second consecutive day on Sunday.
According to reports, floodwaters are flowing over the Rayagada-Koraput road while river Bansadhara has crossed danger mark at Kashipur in Gajapati district. A bridge has been reportedly washed away in floodwaters in Koraput district, while Dashmantpur area remains cut-off from other parts of the state. Nearly 5,000 people of five villages in Kalahandi district are inundated in the floods. Apart from the Southern Orissa, flood situation in Nayagarh district has also worsened.
