Report by Amaranth Parida; Paradip: Paradip Port Trust has taken various preventive measures for possible out break of swine flu in Paradip area in which PPT has directed to produce Free Pratique Health Declaration to entry in port area.
Sources said that ships arriving at Paradip port from the swine flu-affected countries will be quarantined thoroughly by the portís health officer and doctors. The crew members of the ships arriving from flu hit countries will not be allowed to land at the port and they are to be isolated from others. As country has witnessed as Swine Flu after death of five persons in which PPT has taken protective measures to check the possibility of Swine Flu in our state .Crew members of affected countries are coming to Paradip Port for exporting and importing of cargos daily. Meanwhile, central health ministry and state health department has alerted Pardip Port Trust authority to remain alert for possible out break of Swine flu in which Port authority has taken various preventive measures towards flu. Accordingly, the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) is now on full alert, with its marine department intimating all shipping agents, ship owners about the symptoms of the flu among the people even if they have not had any contact with pigs.
Chief Medical Officer, PPT Mr Nikhil Kumar Mohanty has expressed that foreign vessels have directed to waiting at the port anchorage, 10 kms from Paradip port for quarantine before getting berth in port. The captain of vessel will give information about the numbers of crew members, departure of last port, health condition of crew members, causality, whether affected by virus or epidemic during the traveling and other health related problem of crew members. Pilots of PPT will verify these information in which the captain of said vessel will produce Free Pratique Health Declaration to PPT. After obtaining this dedication, PPT would allow the said vessel to entry to get berth in port harbour.
If any problem is being detected during quarantine so said vessels will be returned back and will not allowed to entry in port harbour. Realizing it, the state Government has geared up all its machinery to remain prepared to handle a possible outbreak of swine flu in the State. Government has directed Paradip Port Trust authority and district collectors to remain alert to wards out break of this flu. Similarly, Directorate General of Shipping under the Union Ministry of Shipping has also alerted various ports including the authority of Paradip Port Trust to take adequate precaution for possible out break of swine flu. Accordingly, the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) is now on full alert, with its marine department intimating all shipping agents, ship owners about the symptoms of the flu among the people even if they have not had any contact with pigs.
As Paradip Port has witnessed the inflow of crew members from flu affected countries so there is urgent need of health check up of these crew members and tourists. There is no provision for collection of blood sample of suspected crew members. CMO Mr Mohanty has expressed that there is no suspected cases so steps have been taken to shift suspected cases to SCB medical college and hospital, Cuttack fro treatment and test because of no provision to collect blood sample.PPT has taken precaution to check possible out break of swine flu. Health officials have asked the pilots to use mask and to follow other guidelines in case of suspected detention of flu affected crew members in port area. - He added.
