Report by Orissadiary correspondent; Jagatsinghpur: The Home department on Saturday directed Jagatsinghpur district administration to hand over 16 Bangladeshi nationals to the 36th BSF Battalion headquartered at Kalyani in West Bengal for final deportation.
A police team is going with the Bangladeshis to hand them over to the BSF Battalion on September 8. The 16 Bangladeshi fishermen have taken temporary shelter at the Jagatsinghpur stadium complex since July after the local court acquitted them.
All of them are the natives of Barishal district of Bangladesh. When they came to know about their deportation, they were jubilant, with joyous tears rolling down from their eyes.The Coast Guard officials of Paradip on October 17, 2008 had intercepted 17 Bangladeshi fishermen and seized a trawler Sahajahan-II while they were fishing in the Bay of Bengal, 35 nautical miles off the Paradip Port allegedly by violating the Maritime Zone of the Indian Act. The Paradip police registered a case and booked all of them in the case.
The SDJM Court of Jagatsinghpur in July acquitted 16 Bangladeshi and imposed a fine of Rs 2.50 lakh on the master of the fishing vessel, Alamgiri Majhi (40). Majhi was convicted for six months' imprisonment.
