Orissa Government to appoint 16,000 Sikhya sahayak, 3,200 contractual teachers
Report by Orissadiary bureau; Bhubaneswar: Minister of School and Mass Education Pratap Jena said in the house on Thursday that 51Primary teachers and 3704 Middle school teachers posts are lying vacant  and there are 1 Lakh 36 thousand 669 sanctioned posts are available. There is legal problem for appointment of teachers directly, for which Sikhya Sahayak, Gana Sikhyak  and Contractual teachers are being appointed and they are being regularised after six years. Till now more than 65 thousand Sikhya sahayak has been appointed and shortly more 16 thousand Sikhya sahayak will be appointed. Further Sri Jena expressed that 3,200 contractual teachers to be appointed within 6 months in the state. There will no deficit of the Primary Teachers in the state in a recent future.

Raising the question during the zero hour, NCP member Amar Satapathy said that the government took little initiation to improve the scenario, involving scarcity of teachers in schools. “Vacant teachers’ posts are lying galore. More than 51,000 posts of teachers are vacant in primary and 3704 posts in secondary schools,” Satapathy said. The Opposition MLAs alleged that in stead of appointing regular teachers, the government is hiring Sikhya Sahayaks and contract teachers.
