The State Government on Wednesday announced to set up three special courts at the district headquarters of Sambalpur, Balesore and Cuttack. The decisions were taken at the SC and ST Welfare Department's vigilance monitoring committee meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat.
Patnaik also directed the District Collectors to hold meetings regularly. Besides, the Government also decided to establish a legal aid cell at every block headquarters to facilitate SC and ST people lodge their complaints and provide legal assistance to them free of cost under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Patnaik further stated that until today nearly 9,000 cases related to atrocities filed by people belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes remain pending in different district judge courts.
