Report by Orissa Diary correspondent; Bhubaneswar: The Commercial Tax department has launched e-Filing of Tax returns and e-Registration on Thursday. The Finance and Excise Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadei has launched the e-Service facility here in Jayadev Bhawan.
Now a new business man can apply electronically for registration under the provision of Orissa Valu Added Tax Act , the Central Sales Tax Act and the Orissa Entry Tax Act. The registered dealers can file monthly/quarterly tax returns under these Acts electronically.
These services, coupled with the e-Payment of Taxes launched earlier, empower the manufacturers,dealers and merchants in the State to regularly interact and transact with the Orissa Commercial Tax Department from the comfort of their offices/homes. These services also open the opportunities for better tax compliance in form of reduced compliance cost of dealers and thus enhanced revenue realization for the State as a whole. E-Payment through SBI Portal launched in March this year has been well received by the dealers Rs 311.90 crore constituting about 50% of total collection of Commercial Taxes in the month of October 2010 was collected through e-payment.
The department will launch e-Forms facility shortly .The dealers can apply for issue of various statutory forms electronically. After receipt of the e-application the Department shall cause necessary verifications and approve generation of the forms at dealers end/dispatch printed forms through dealers.
The Commercial Tax Department has engaged Mastek Ltd a leading IT solutions provider for development of these services.
