Orissa Government encouraging for setting of Cold storage for preservation
Report by Orissa Diary correspondent; Bhubaneswar : The state government is encouraging for establishment of Cold storage for preservation of Potatos in 40% subsidy. Similarly, for the storage of Onions , the state government is providing 50% subsidy for establishment of Onion storage . Agriculture and Cooperation Minister Dr Damodar Rout expressed in the house on Tuesday replying to the question of legislature Amar Prasad Satpathy, Pratap Sarangi, Nabin Nanda and additional questions.

The Minister further expressed that earlier there were 20 cold storages and all have been damaged during the year 1998.As per the assessment  of the Horticulture Directorate Potato cultivated in 13,000 hectare land and Onion cultivated in 32,000 Hectare land during the year 2009-10. Out of which about 1.78 lakh MT Potato and 2.97 lakh Onions were produced. For the increase of the production, the government have provided 3,641 Quintal Certified Potato seeds to the farmers  in subsidized rate and 100 Quintal of Onion seeds of high quality.
