Report by Basant Rath; Nabarangpur: Minister for agriculture Mr. Pradeep Maharathy, Sc & Tech, Animal Resources, Fishery & ST Development minister along with Director of Agriculture Mr. RS.Gopalan and Principal Secretary to Govt., Agriculture Department Mr. Rangalal Jamuda, visited Nabarangpur district. During their two days visit on Tuesday Inaugurated the district development photo exhibition, at Shastri Bhawan and the newly constructed deputy director office building, at Nabarangpur.
At the interaction meeting of the minister agriculture with farmers and input dealers of the district. Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi, attracted the agriculture minister that in the district agriculture is the prime occupation of the district and more than 80 percent of people depends within agriculture, and till today monsoon playing truant with farmers, drought like situation prevailed in the district, the district has not even received the 50 percent of the average rainfall in the last two months. He demanded that Nabarangpur be declared a drought-affected district.
Local MP, Pradeep Majhi, demanded to provide irrigation facility in the district, and to take immediate steps for irrigation of down stream of the Indravati project, also construct Tel Dam, at Chandahandi, Sati Jhar Dam at Jharigam.
The local rural farmers conveyed their grievance to the Minister that there has been an artificial scarcity of DAP and potash in the district and requested him to look into the matter. The farmers also demanded to supply of modern agriculture equipment with financial support, establishment of soil testing laboratory, seed processing unit, maize and sugarcane processing unit in the district.
Minister Mr. Maharathi, assured to look into the problems, he further announced that soil testing laboratory, and seed processing unit, will be established at Umerkote. He further said that chief minister and MP,Pyari Mohapatro, will come to this district for the lays foundation stone of Maize processing unit at Semala under Papadahandi block, and sugarcane processing unit at Churchanda. Among others Collector, Sibabrata Dash, Dabugam MLA, Bhujabala Majhi, Nabarangpur, MLA, Mahohar Randhari, Zilla Parisad Chairman, Bhagirathi Nayak, present at the meeting.On Wednesday visited Jharigam, and Umerkote, interacted with the farmers and inaugurated animal mobile health units at Jharigam.
