Andhra Pradesh CM Reviews Progress Of Pranahita-Chevella Project

Hyderabad: The Chief Minister Mr N.Kiran Kumar Reddy today reviewed in detail Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Pranahita-Chevella Sujala Sravanthi Irrigation Project with Major Irrigation Minister P.Sudarshan Reddy and top officials at Secretariat. The Chief Minister directed the officials to adhere to the milestones and expedite clearances from Government of India agencies to get the funding under PMRP. He wanted another meeting in second week of December.

He stressed the need to execute the work as per milestones. The Chief Minister said water availability and immediate irrigation potential should be the priority and the projects should be taken up with clear milestones and all efforts are being made to get it declared as a National Project. He said it is an important project since it would irrigate vast areas of land in the 7 districts of Telangana. Principal Secretary, Irrigation, S.K.Joshi, Secretary, Irrigation, Adityanath Das, Principal Secretary, Finance, V.Bhasker, Secretary, Finance, Premchandra Reddy, Engineer-in-Chiefs, Irrigation, Principal Secretary to CM, Binoy Kumar and other officials attended the meeting. Officials explained that the Pranahita-Chevella Project envisages to lift 160 TMC of water by constructing a barrage across River Pranahita near the confluence of rivers Wardha and Waiganga at Tummidi Hetti village of Koutalla Mandal of Adilabad District.

 This project contemplates to provide irrigation facilities for an ayacut of 16,40,000 acres in drought prone areas in 7 districts of Telangana region, to provide 10 TMC of drinking water to the villages enroute, to provide 30 TMC of drinking water to the twin cities and 16 TMC of water to industrial use. The Project envisages to provide irrigation for 1,56,500 acres in 306 villages of 19 Mandals in Adilabad District, 1,71,449 acres in 157 villages of 10 Mandals of Karimnagar District, 3,04,500 acres of 275 villages in 19 Mandals in Nizamabad district, 5,19,152 acres of 539 villages in 22 Mandals of Medak district, 2,29,832 acres of 171 villages in 11 Mandals in Nalgonda district, 2,46,704 acres of 283 villages in 14 Mandals of Ranga Reddy district and 11,863 acrs., of 11 villages in 2 Mandals of Warangal district (total 16,40,000 acres).

The Project is divided into 7 links from Pranahita River to Sripada Yellampally Barrage, from Sripada Yellampally Barrage to Mid Manair Reservoir, From Mid Manair Reservoir to Upper Manair Reservoir, From Mid Manair Reservoir to Pamulaparthy Reservoir, from Tipparam Reservoir to Chityala, From Tipparam Reservoir to Chevella Reservoir and from SRSP Foreshore to Nizamsagar Canals and Nirmal & Mudhole Constituencies.

The Government vide Memo No.7514 dated 30-06-29011 have permitted the CE, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Pranahita-Chevella Sujala Sravanthi Project to revise the milestones of all the packages strictly in accordance with the PERT chart and limiting projected annual expenditure submitted earlier for the entire project completion period in the next eight years, ensuring that the benefits of the project start accruing in a time-bound and continuous manner from 2014-15 onwards.
