Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met Kamal Nath, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry at New Delhi and discussed the possibility of setting up a branch of this instituteat Bhubaneswar.
The rich variety of handlooms/ handicrafts products of Orissa can be developed for export with design support from the NID, Patnaik told Kamal Nath.
Patnaik assured that the State would provide necessary infrastructure for setting up a unit of NID at Bhubaneswar. It is relevant to mention that the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) under the aegis of the Textiles Ministry is setting up an Apparel Training and Development Centre at Bhubaneswar shortly. The CM also discussed the setting up of specialised cold storage facilities at Bhubaneswar Airport and Paradeep Port to give a boost to exports of marine, horticulture and floriculture products from Orissa. These will be set up with assistance from institutions of the Department of Commerce. He further discussed about the SEZ proposals from Orissa, which are under consideration of the Department of Commerce. Kamal Nath assured that due consideration would be given to the requests of Orissa Government.
