Naveen announced Rs 33 cr for Co-op banks

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday announced at the District Collectors' Conference that Rs 33 crore would be provided to co-operative banks to facilitate the disbursal of subsidised agricultural loans to farmers.

Henceforth, the farmers would get the agricultural loan at seven per cent interest from the State cooperative banks. It may be noted that the Central Government had agreed to subsidise commercial banks, which were to bear the distribution of loans to farmers. The commercial banks announced a reduction in interest of two per cent from the existing nine percent.

Chief Minister Patnaik directed all the Collectors to take steps for infrastructure development in the flood-affected areas. He also directed them to chalk out plans to take up Rabi-crop programme and repair the defunct lift-irrigation points within seven days. 

The issue of improvement of roads, restoration of embankment and bridges was taken up at the collectors' conference. Chief Minister directed the district collectors to extensively tour the districts and asked them to pay the compensation to the flood-victims as soon as possible. Patnaik also directed the officials to prepare a long-term measure to take up steps for the improvement of the flood affected areas. 

At the meeting the Chief Minister revealed that Orissa has shown a 12 per cent growth in the field of agriculture and asked the officials to prepare a plan so that farmers could have a good crop in the Rabi season . During the meeting the district collectors raised the point they have not received enough fertilisers. He also directed the officials for to ensure that the special package announced by the State Government should reach the people. 

The change of course of Banasadhara and Nagabali issue also found echo in the collectors' conference. While Bansadhara could submerge Kashinagar and Nagabali could also submerge Rayagada town. It was decided that a team under the Principal Secretary, Water Resources, Aurobinda Behera would visit the area.
