Report by OrissaDiary.com bureau; Bhubaneswar: The Government in Labour & ESI Department has invited representations containing objections or suggestions from the affected persons on the notification issued regarding fixing/revising the minimum wages in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (b) of sub-section (1) of section 3 read with section 4 and sub-section (2) of section 5 of minimum wages Act, 1948 (11 of 1948). The afore mentioned representation will be taken into account for 60 days from the date of notifications i.e. 20.04.2012.
As per the notification issued by Labour & ESI Department, the revised minimum rate of wages in all sectors for unskilled persons is Rs. 125.00 per day, for semi-skilled Rs. 145/- per day, for skilled Rs. 165/- and for highly skilled Rs. 180/-. In Agriculture Sector for nonploughing persons it is Rs. 125/- and for ploughing case it is Rs. 150/- .
Apart from this a special allowance of Rs. 2.50/- (Rupees two and fifty paisa) only per day will be paid to all individual workers as per the recommendation of Labour Bureau, Simla, Ministry of Labour. The notification also clarifies that there will no discrimination between male and female employees on mater of payment. The minimum rates of wages for disabled persons shall be same as payable to the workers of the appropriate category.
As far as information is concerned, excluding Agriculture sector, there are 82 sectors where daily wage basis labourers are working for their livelihood. After getting representations from various sections Government may consider for revision again.
