Shimla: Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister said that of late there had been crisis of confidence in all sections of the society and need of the hour was that media persons should take a lead as it had always remained instrumental in the freedom movement and thereafter Nation building. He was speaking on the occasion of launching of Hindi daily ‘Himachal Dastak’ unveiling the first edition of the newspaper, here today.
Chief Minister said that deterioration of values in all sections of the societies was a matter of concern, which need to be instilled in the larger interest of the society as well as Nation.
Chief Minister said that in the present age of information technology people were keen to keep themselves abreast of the happenings taking place the world over with every passing moment. He said that in such conditions people rely more on the channels which had build their credibility with the readers and viewers of the channels. He said that the practice of paid news in different media was also contrary to the high traditions and ethics of journalism. He cited an example from an article which had been written by renowned journalist Shri Prabhash Joshi and appeared in Hindi daily Jansatta in year 2009 with title ‘Jab Sipahi Chor Ho Gaya’ wherein he had written about the responsibilities of journalists and ethics.
Prof. Dhumal said that regional editions of newspapers had fragmented the information dissemination system and were also depriving readers of the entire happenings elsewhere. He said that media being fourth pillar of the democracy acts as watchdog over the activities of the other three pillars and bridges the gap between the governors and the governed thereby binding the entire society into a strong bond of unity. He appreciated the effort of the organization to bring out a complete single edition and hoped that it would come to the expectations of the people.
Shri Hemant Sharma, Editor of the Himachal Dastak apprised the audience of the contents to be included in the newspaper.
Shri Satpal Singh Satti, MLA and President, State BJP, Shri Suresh Bhardwaj and Shri Rakesh Pathania, MLAs, Shri Ganesh Datt, Vice Chairman, HIMUDA, Dr. Ashok Kapahtia, Vice Chairman, HP State Media Advisory Committee, Shri Ashok Sharma, Inspector General of Police, Shri K.D.Sridhar, Chairman and Shri K.P.Bhardwaj, Managing Director of the newspaper and other prominent persons were present on the occasion among others.
