Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: The turbulence IOCL plant site in Paradep remained tense on Tuesday, as labourers and three trade unions staged demonstration and protest meeting in front of trouble torn Gate No 4 where CISF personnel had resorted firing and at least eight labourers were injured and now undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital Cuttack.
Sources said following the agitation IOCL works had put to halt entire day, security arrangements have tightened in plant site while state cops including CISF men have pressed in to service maintaining law and order situation, meanwhile agitated labourers and trade union leaders demanded to conduct a RDC level prove over the incident and giving compensation to the injured victims and action against the errant CISF personnel those fired indiscriminately to innocent labourers and pushed 8 demands to be fulfilled unless would opposed the project work.
On the other the condition of six injured victims are stated to be stable and one victim is struggling for life in SCB Medical and hospital, Cuttack, hospital sources said, Jagatsinghpur MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai on Tuesday visited SCB Medical college and hospital and enquired conditions of the victims and demanded giving free medical aids to the injured labourers.
After the firing incident central DIG Mr Arun Kumar Ray visited IOCL plant site on Monday evening and held discussion with CISF seniors, local police, trade union leaders, IOCL authority including civil officials and asked all stake holders to maintain peace and tranquility and action would be taken after proper enquiry against errant men in uniform guarding IOCL gate No-4 on occurrence day.
The CISF seniors on defense pleaded that trouble erupted due to unauthorized tress pass in to plant site, on Monday morning few persons including labourers pushed Gate no-4 entering plant site but guarding CISF men disallowed them as they did not show valid gate pass causing as consequence on retaliation they attacked one CISF man and snatched his gun and ransacked CISF gate site office, on self defense CISF personnel resorted firing only to disperse the mob for which few labourers have sustained injuries, informed CISF assistant commandant SS Mohanty.
