Report by Ananta Prasad; New Delhi: Members of National Odia Youth and Students Organisation 'Yuva Odisha' today staged protest before Andhra Pradesh Bhavan against Polavaram project. Over 100 Odia youth, intellectual today participated in this protest against Andhra Pradesh Government under the leadership of Tejeswar Parida.
“The construction work would submerge over 2100 hectare of land having more than 13 tribal villages in Padia block of Malkangiri district” said Yuva Odisha Chief Tejeswar Parida. He urged the Andhra Pradesh Government to immediately stop the project. Parida we will protest this decision of Andhra Pradesh Government in different metros of India. Social activist Bikram Kesari Nayak maintained his outrage against Andhra Government on the ground that the project would adversely affect the forestland and habitations of tribal people due to submergence likely to be caused by the project. He further added when the matter is in apex court it is quite undemocratic and unconstitutional for Andhra Pradesh Government to tender for construction of Polavaram project, he added further.
A memorandum on this issue was submitted by the Odia intellectuals before Andhra Bhawan Resident Commissioner which was addressed to CM Kiran Kumar Reddy.
