Report by Ananta Prasad; Bhubaneswar: Heavy rains expected in some parts of Odisha in next 24 hrs. Met dept says Low pressure intensified in North West Bay of Bengal.
In another development due to heavy rain ten more sluice gates of Hirakud Dam Reservoir (HDR) were opened on Saturday to release flood water. So far 19 gates opened to release water from reservoir. Met department says due to this showers are expected in most parts of the State in next 24 hours, informed the local Met Department on Sautrday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at a few places over the State during the next 24 hours, it said.
According to the Met officials, under the influence of upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and the neighbourhood, a low pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining coastal areas of north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal on Friday morning.
The department alerted the fishermen not to venture into the sea as strong and gusty surface winds with speed reaching 45 km to 55 km per hour would prevail along and off the Odisha coast.
