Report by Akshya Rout; Jajpur: A Maoist camp was destroyed on Tuesday early morning and huge quantities of arms and explosive materials including 100 aluminum detonators, seven boosters, 146 round live bullets, seven pistols,and three rifles were seized during an operation by security forces inside Aradabala forest bordering Jajpur – Keonjhar districts ,said Kishor Chandra Mund the police officer of Kalinganagar police station.
Based on information provided by arrested Maoist cadre Rabi Murmu ofBalipur village under Kalinganagar police station , a team of security personnel conducted a raid in Aradabala forest under Tamaka policestation area in the district and recovered the Maoist belongings.
Police also seized Maoist propaganda material, clothing handbook ofMaoists, food materials like rice, dal stored in drums, water jerkins, anti-malaria medicines, intravenous fluids like glucose saline,petrol, blood testing kits etc. Joint forces could not succeed in arresting the Maoists as they fled from the camp before the raid.Combing operation has been intensified in these areas after police destroyed the camp of the rebels.
The districts of Jajpur and Keonjhar , considered a Maoist stronghold. The Maoists are vehemently opposing mining in the tribal dominated forest areas. The mineral rich Jajpur and Keonjhar district and its nearby Sukinda another mineral rich areas of Jajpur district are covered with dense forest have been the safe haven for the Maoistssince long.
Maoists regularly target the Daitari , Sukinda, Tamaka and other areas of Jajpur and Keonjhar districts. The presence of Maoists was felt in Jajpur district in 2006 after police gunned down 14 tribals in Kalinganagar while they were protesting against TATA company to acquire their land .
Five Maoists including four women Maoists had been gunned down on 2nd January 2010 by the police in the forest area in Tungeisuni near Tamaka in Jajpur district.
