Report by Pravuprasad Routray, Bhubaneswar: Silver city Cuttack and capital city Bhubaneswar decked up like a bride in Durga Puja. Both the cities turned into a veritable amusement fair as the gates of Durga Puja pandals opened for visitors on Sunday.
In Cuttack there are nearly 200 Durga Puja pendals and in Bhubaneswar there are nearly 150 durga pendals. Silver city Cuttack goes for gold to decorate Durga Puja mandaps. Four puja committees of the city has given golden touch to their 'mandaps'. In Bhubaneswar nearly 3 Puja committees has given silver touch to their 'mandaps'.
Lakhs of people thronged choked the city roads as the puja frenzy caught on. People not just from the capital but also neighboring areas are in the city to partake of the festivities. People from far away places come Millenium city Cutttack for a glimpse of the lighting during Durga Puja. Beautiful pandals awed people with their wonderful finish and exquisite idols of goddess Durga looking down upon them.'
Both the cities were decked up like a bride with the entrance of every street welcoming throngs of people with open arms, every tree laced with bulbs that lit up your face, children thoroughly enjoying themselves in amusement rides put up at every nook and corner. The street vendors armed with a host of goodies from balloons, toys to musical instruments formed the major attraction for children. Not to mention the serpentine queues in front of pandals. Needless to say, there was a spring in every step with the festive spirit overwhelming one and all.
Various Puja Mandap in both the cities hosting various entertainment programs. Big puja mandap have started bhajan samaroahs from Saptami.
