Report by Deba Prasad Dash, Malkangiri: Unabated violence by the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) has left the situation more tense in the district during the past few months. Red terror continues to prevail in the district despite the tall claims of the police .
Ignoring the cops, the Maoist rebels torched a vehicle engaged in bridge construction work of Rural Development Department in the wee hours on Saturday. Around 40 Red rebels swooped down on the worksite of a contractor at MPV-22, near Kangrukonda which is about 35 km from here and set a vehicle used in road construction on fire.
A group of armed Maoists reached the camp and terrorized the workers sleeping at the spot. They drove away the workers from the spot.
Then the ultras torched a concrete mixture machines parked at the spot. The machine was engaged in the bridge construction work there. According to police sources the machine has been damaged in the arson.
This incident happened within less than 24 hours after Maoists gunned down a village headman(pedda) Pandu Madkami on Friday in Parasanapali village under Podia police limits.
During past few months Maoists are targeting contractors, village headman, SPOs and village guards(gram rachis) in the district. The reason behind the crime is yet to be ascertained as the Maoists have not left any poster or letter near the crime spot. As no one was present at the time of the offensive, no injury or casualty has been reported,” police said.
