Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik writes to Railway Minister about expansion of Bhubaneswar railway station
Report by Ananta Prasad, Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today writes to Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal about expansion & infrastructure development of Bhubaneswar railway station. CM Patnaik said that the state government agrees to share project cost of Rs 205cr.
CM Patnaik in his letter to Bansal said that, "Bhubaneswar, the Capital City of Odisha is witnessing multidimensional growth and is poised to continue so in the coming years. The present Railway infrastructure at Bhubaneswar Station with ' just four passenger platforms is grossly inadequate to cater to the needs of the present traffic. I have been informed that two platforms are already sanctioned as a part of Barang-Khurda Road third line Work. In addition to this, two more platforms will be required to effectively deal with the passenger traffic on a long term basis. Apart from this, the movement of road vehicles and their parking in Bhubaneswar station area needs immediate improvement. The flow of traffic to and from the station needs to be segregated from the route used by Town buses and other local traffic."
He further added that, "East Coast Railway has drawn up a comprehensive plan with an estimated cost of Rs.205 crores for construction of 2 additional platforms, a new station building having world class facilities, proper circulating area and a multilevel parking yfacility etc. The plan was presented to me on 03.09.2012. The State Government is willing for financial participation on a cost sharing basis for infrastructural development of Bhubaneswar Railway Station area, keeping in view the 1 larger interest of the Rail users of Bhubaneswar. The modalities for the sarne can worked out between the Railway Board and State Government officials."
Patnaik said that an early decision before the next Railway Budget would be very much appreciated.
