Five from Odisha get Padma honours, Raghunath Mohapatra got coveted Padma Vibhushan
Report by OdishaDiary bureau; Bhubaneswar: Renowned sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra got the coveted Padma Vibhushan award, the country's second highest civilian award, for his contribution to art and craft, the list of Padma awardees released by the government on Friday said. Four others from Odisha, Professor Jogesh Chandra Pati, Kailash Ch Meher, AK Bir and Dr Tara P Dash are recipients of Padma Shri.
Born in Puri, Mohapatra was awarded Padma Shri by the then President of India Fakiruddin Ali Ahmed in 1976 and honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in 2001 by former president RK Narayan. Mohapatra has very thorough study on different pattern of temple design, traditional ornament of both cultural and aesthetic aspect for acknowledge authority on stone carving and designing.
Professor Jogesh Chandra Pati who is now based in USA to get Padma Bhushan. Professor Jogesh Chandra Pati started his schooling at Guru Training School, Baripada and than admitted to MKC High School where he passed the Matriculation. He was admitted in MPC College and passes I Sc. Pati has made pioneering contributions to the notion of a unification of elementary particles – quarks and leptons – and of their gauge forces force: weak, electromagnetic, and strong.
Padma Shri recipient Dr Das, director of L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Bhubaneswar, is an internationally reputed retinal surgeon.
