Report by OdishaDiary bureau, Bhubaneswar: White Paper-2012 of the state Home Department tabled in the Assembly on Friday. The report said crime rate increased in the state in 2012 by 14% and no naxal violence is reported in at least six Maoist infested districts.
As per the report as many as 83,960 criminal cases were registered in State in 2012 which is marked 14 per cent more than the previous year.
As per the White Paper out of 1,458 rape cases registered, 417 cases were proved while 928 cases were chargsheeted. As per the report the numbers of dowry torture cases in 2012 are 4,898 out of which 526 cases are related to murder for dowry while 82 cases are suicide.
The report also said that in comparison to 2011, the 2012 recorded more numbers of theft, dacoity, murder and plunder cases. The paper noted no naxal violence is reported in six Maoist infested districts including Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj and Sambalpur in 2012.
