The ambitious Rs 21,000-crore coal-to-gas (CTG) project of the Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) at Angul is scheduled to be commissioned by May 15, said JSPL Chairman Naveen Jindal here on Wednesday.
“We expect that the CTG project at Angul will be commissioned within next 15 days, that is, by May 15. Sponge iron (DRI) will be produced by utilising the CTG technology, which is first of its kind in the world, and we are very excited for the project,” said Jindal after the meeting.
He said he apprised the top Government officials about the progress about the JSPL’s steel mill at Angul and other projects. The commissioning of the CTG project would mark the completion of the JSPL’s 1.5-mtpa integrated steel plant in the first phase, he said.
To a question, Jundal admitted that the fate of the JSPL’s proposed Rs 60,000-crore coal to liquid (CTL) project at Angul is uncertain following the de-allocation of coal block in its favour by the Union Coal Ministry.
