Naveen meets Home  Minister Patil  urged to assist Orissa

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday called on Union Minister for Home Affairs Shivraj Patil in New Delhi and urged him to assist Orissa in terms of manpower and financial resources to strengthen its internal security system.

"Under the Security Related Expenditure Scheme (SRE), more districts may be included for effective control of Maoists' activities in the State," he said, adding that the allocation of funds be raised from Rs 9 crore to Rs 15 crore with a special focus on Malkangiri and Raygada districts.

Patil assured to provide financial and manpower support to the State Government. He also agreed to the proposal of the State Government to retain all the 7 battalions of CRPF deployed in the Kandhamal district till March 15.

Patil also agreed to the State Government's demand for sanctioning of five more India Reserve Battalions for the State. Patnaik further asked the Centre to increase the allocation under the Police Modernisation scheme for the Training Resources Centre (TRC) with the Special Operation Group( SOG) under construction at Chandaka. The TRC is being developed as a permanent Training Resources Centre for counter Terrorism Jungle Warfare and Anti-Extremist Operation.

He also requested Patil for an early release of 1.87 lakh of MT of foodgrains to Orissa for undertaking relief employment in the districts, which were affected by floods in 2006.

Patnaik also attended the meeting of the Chief Ministers of NDA ruled States convened under the chairmanship of LK Advani. During the meeting, relations between the BJD and the BJP were discussed. The issue of reorganisation of the Assembly constituency was also discussed in the meeting.
