Bhubaneswar: The birth anniversaries of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Vir Surendra Sai were observed throughout the State on Wednesday. Students of various schools and colleges in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar took out rallies, to remember Netaji's contribution in the freedom struggle. Leaders of various political parties paid floral tributes to Bose and Sai here.
The Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee observed the birthday of Netaji and Orissa's legendary freedom fighter Vir Surendra sai, with PCC president Jaydeb Jena, along with other party leaders, garlanding Netaji's statue at Rasulgarh Square and Sai's statue at VSS Nagar. Orissa Loka Dal president Dipti Ranjan Mohanty and other office-bearers of the party also paid their floral tributes to both the leaders.
The Stewart School authorities on the occasion claimed that Netaji had had his formal school education from the school about a 100 years ago. Ravenshaw Collegiate, where Bose spent his college life, also celebrated the occasion in a grand way. The Old Students' Association of the school organised a public meeting in the school campus, which was to be attended by Union Minister PR Dasmunshi. However, the Minister failed to turn up on the occasion. Netaji's birth anniversary was observed by the Forward Bloc too. Several leaders of the party attended various programmes in the State, said State party Chief Santosh Kumar Mitra.
