No cracker bursting in twin cities, thanks Commissionerate of Police

Bhubaneswar: Orissa Government has issued a high alert  ahead of Diwali in the entire State with additional forces have been asked to man the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. “We have asked district all Range DIGs and Suprinetendents of Police to remain high alert while steps have been taken to man the Maoists infected areas of the State,” a senior Intellegnce officail said on Sunday.

However, Orissa Police intends to seek the help of commoners for intelligence gathering by activating their "Eyes and Ears" scheme, whereby local people are expected to provide information that can be crucial in preventing damage. Besides, patrolling will also be intensified and traffic police will be deployed in huge numbers to prevent chaos on the roads.

The Police in twin citie will strictly enforce the directives of Supreme Court and Orissa High Court to stop bursting of fire crackers after 10 pm on Diwali and the sound level of fire crackers shall be restricted to 125 decibels.

The police would also enforce the restriction on fire crackers which have no indication of sound level, details of chemical contents by the manufacturers as prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards. In this connection, Police Commissioner BK Sharma has directed the DCPs of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and all IICs to strictly implement the judgment under their jurisdiction.

The apex court in 2005 had passed a historical judgement in view of the life and liberty of people. The High Court has also passed similar judgement to save the citizens from the disastrous effects of sound pollution.
