Odisha: Main accused of Kujang woman stripping case was arrested by police

Report by Amarnath Parida; Jagatsinghpur: Police have arrested one main accused who allegedly stripped and paraded in naked a SC woman at Mangrajpur village under Kujang police limit from Paradip on today after 15 days of the incidence. Other four accused persons have not yet arrested so different women organizations have threatened to intensify stir to fulfill their demands.

One SC community woman Sasmita Mallick was beaten up by iron rod and stripped by them main accused Rabi Mallick in Mangarajpur village under same police limit with his other family members Gangadhar Mallick, Netrananda Mallick,Chabi Mallick and Pabitra Mallick  . She was paraded naked in front of her husband Satyananda around the village, and subsequently threw her in unconscious stage after injuring her in critical condition from last 15 days back due to past rivalry.

Hearing her scream, her husband with the help of local villagers shifted her Kujang hospital and later also shifted to SCB medical college and hospital, Cuttack for treatment. Now she has been treated at private nursing home in Cuttack where she is struggling with life. Meanwhile, different party leaders, different organizations and government officials have rushed to her house and medical to give moral support and financial assistance for the treatment of Sasmita.

Government officials led by BDO, Kujang Mr. Ramakant Kar visited her house at Mangrajpur and contacted with her family members to know the conditions of victim woman. Meanwhile, administration has been given Rs 10,000 from Red Cross for treatment.

Women activists of National Alliance of woman and ‘We Can Odisha’ led by Lalita Misal and others visited private nursing home at Cuttack where Sasmita has been treated. They asked doctors for improvement of her health and urged the state government to provide assistance for her treatment and to nab the culprits. Earlier, BJP and ‘Smrudha Odisha’ party leaders met her while BJP gave Rs 10.000 for her treatment.

On the other hand, her husband Satyananda has sought the intervention of State Commission for Women for seeking justice on his wife’s stripping and assaults us while police is trying to suppress this matter. He has also sought the intervention of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), to conduct an inquiry to also seeking justice.

Meanwhile, NHRC has been issued notice to the Superintendent of police, Jagatsinghpur and medical officer while seeking a reply within two weeks.

Earlier, Kujang police have been registered cases against them under various sections of the IPC. On a raid, police has arrested one main accused Rabi Mallick from Paradip and produced before the court of the Junior Magistrate First Class at Kujang on today last which remanded him to jail custody for 15 days.

In-charge SP Mr Vijaya Sahu has expressed that main accused Rabi has been forwarded to the court and raid has continued to nab other culprits.
