Tata Steel promotes use of alternative energy in Kalinganagar periphery
Report by Odisha Diary bureau, Kalinganagar: To promote the use of alternative and renewable energy sources, while simultaneously improving the quality of life of local communities, Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS), the CSR arm of Tata Steel, has embarked on a mission to install solar street lights in Kalinganagar area in Jajpur district.

In Kalinganagar, where the steel major is setting up a 6 million tonnes per annum integrated steel plant, 60 solar street lights were installed in the first phase. This has benefitted people in 35 villages located in remote and tribal areas. The majority of the families living in these villages belong to the `below the poverty line’ category.

Taking the process forward, TSRDS installed 150 solar street lights in 94 hamlets belonging to 49 villages of Danagadi and Sukinda blocks recently. With this, 210 solar street lights have been installed in the periphery areas of Kalinganagar Project.

The initiative of TSRDS not only provides clean and green energy to local people but also ensures uninterrupted lights to defeat the darkness from Kalinganagar periphery. TSRDS plans to cover more areas in the next phase. The green initiative of TSRDS has come in for appreciation from the elected PRIs of the area.
