Canfest-2015 theatre carnival ends, finale play 'Mahiyasi' spell bounded Paradeep audience
Report by Kahnu Nanda, Paradeep: The week long National Theatre festival-  Canfest 2015 hosted by Canmass held at Paradeep port town came to an end on Wednesday evening . State  Excise Minister Damodar Rout attended the occasion as chief guest and eminent artist and dramatist Asim Basu, Drama director Dolagovinda Rath, Canmass president A K Mohapatra, secretary Sriman Narayan Mishra were graced on the conclusion event held at Jay Dev Sadan, Paradeep.  
Addressing the event Minister Rout spelled out that a country’s reorganisation appears through its art, culture and language, culture has no edge, even language problems persist but this National level multi lingo drama festival showed that language is not barrier reaching people, and he expressed happiness organising this theatre carnival at Paradeep. The chief guest Rout had presented the life time achievement award to the eminent theatre personality Asim Basu and felicitated few Indian Institute of Mass communication, Dhenkanal [IIMC ] students being participated in the event.          
  A play called Mahiyasi (The Noble Woman) directed by Bhaswati Basu was staged on the conclusion day,. The play presented by Sabuja Natya Samstha, a Bhubneshwar based theatre group left the Paradeep audience spell bounded, the play director Bhaswati Basu performed the lead role of this stage show..
“.The play, Mahiyasi is a symbolic description of the typical mother Kunti, wife   of emperor Pandu from myths Mahabharata, . Kunti had voiced against gender discrimination and injustice had engulfed women during that time.
“.The director, through the play tried to give out the message that women are sources of shakti, the energy. The play depicts how some magnanimous ladies, amid all sorts of chaos managed to expand the socio-cultural and spiritual vibes of the society through their steady perseverance and unshaken faith.
The director of the play Bhaswati Basu an alumnus of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Bhubaneswar and began her stage show works from the year 2005 and recipient of several awards by many organisations besides she has directed some famous teleplays in Doordarshan, Bhubaneswar and her few famous contributions were Huantiki Raja Dinaka Pain, Sheshare Dharama Kahila and Juara-2003.
