Odisha: 76 candidates remained in fray for Paradeep municipal polls
Report by Kahnu Nanda, Paradeep: As many as 76 candidates from several political parties including few independent aspirants remained in Paradeep municipal polls scheduled to be held on 7 April, about 15 independent candidates polled out their papers during the withdrawal of nominations ended on Thursday.
Interestingly BJD’s two rebel candidates fought elections as independent candidates in ward number 2 and 6, duo revolted candidates were Former Paradeep BJD president Kishori Parida and one Jharana Swain both were identified as close aid of Paradeep legislator and state excise minister Damodar Rout.
Official reports informed that Paradeep municipality comprised with 19 wards; BJD, BJP and Congress have fielded candidates in each ward, besides Paradeep Bikash Parishad has fielded 14 candidates and 5 independents remained in elections fray.
Total 93 candidates had filed nominations for the municipal polls, from them 15 aspirants withdrew their papers on Thursday and one candidate’s nomination paper had rejected during scrutiny of nominations held on 23 March.
