Bhubaneswar: The Reserve Bank of India regional office in Bhubaneswar has submitted to police as many as 1,440 counterfeit notes of various denominations.
The value of these notes stand at Rs 3.07 lakh. The counterfeit notes would be sent for examination. The circulation of these notes is indicative of the market for the counterfeits in the State although it is neighbouring Andhra Pradesh which is a transit route for such a trade. The RBI which receives counterfeit notes for exchange from the people submits the same with the local police every six months. A case then is lodged and on its basis investigation is initiated.
