Report by OD bureau; Bhubaneswar: Under 13th Finance commission Grant a State Level Workshop On “Methodological Issues On Price Statistics And Construction Of Price Index” has been organised by Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Odisha on 18.09.2012 at Panthanivas, Bhubaneswar.
Dr. Rabinarayan Senapati, IAS, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Secretary, Odisha, inaugurated the said workshop by lighting the camp as Chief Guest. DC highlighted the importance of price in a monetised economy indicated the role of demand & supply which determines price in the market. He further stressed upon the DA change of Govt. employees & for the organized sector which is related to change in price index. Depending on price index, Govt. take measures to check inflation which influences policy decision.
M.S. Padhi, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Department, Odisha, Sri S.S. Negi, Director, Labour Bureau, Govt. of India, Sri R.P. Mishra, DDG, NSSO, FOD, Govt. of India and Prof. R.P.Panda, Director, NKCCDS, Odisha graced the inaugural function of the workshop as Guests of Honour.
At the beginning of the programme, Sri H.M. Routray, Director, DE&S, Odisha delivered the welcome speech. The invited esteemed guests emphasized on Price Statistics, construction, necessity & utility of Price Index in different spheres of the society. Besides the speakers opined the importance of Price Index towards the development of the State.
The Chief Guest inaugurated the Annual Price Bulletin for the year 2011 and 3(three) Quarterly Bulletins up to March-2012. At the end of the inaugural Session Deputy Director, DE&S, Smt. Indira Mishra delivered Vote of Thanks.
In the second phase the Technical Session was organized. In this session Sri S.S. Negi, Director, labour Bureau, Govt. of India, Sri R.P. Mishra, DDG, NSSO, FOD, Govt. of India and Sri S.S. Mishra, Ex- Joint Director, DE&S, Odisha presented their technical papers on Price Statistics. The Officers & Staff of DE&S, Statistics & Economists of the State and the State & District level Officers of Planning & Co-ordination Department attend the workshop and made it a great success. Lastly at the end of the Technical Session the Joint Director Sri D. Behera delivered Vote of Thanks and closed the workshop.
