Vedanta to help rath yatris

Puri: Vedanta Group has come forward to assist millions of pilgrims descending here to witness the famous Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath tomorrow.

The group has decided to distribute 5 lakh water pouches and 2 lakh biscuit packets to devotees tomorrow.

Two ambulances will be pressed into service to attend to the pilgrims in case of any emergency.

The company has also set up a rest shed of 15000 sq ft at Talabania with basic amenities and emergency health care centres equipped with doctors, nurses and medicine. Another such centre will also be there in front of the Gundicha temple, said company sources.

Five hundred villagers of the project affected areas will serve as volunteers.

In another development, Mr AK Goyal, general manager East Coast Railway today reviewed arrangements for comfort and convenience of pilgrims coming to Puri.

He stressed upon safety, security and punctuality of the Rath Yatra special trains.

He directed officials to ensure round the clock control room to look into passenger related issues. The railway protection force has also been put on high alert.
