Report by Amarnath Parida; Jagatsinghpur (Orissa): Drug control squad raided on different medicine shops for running their shops without license and selling of duplicate and sub standard medicines in rural areas of Jagatsinghpur district on Friday.
Sources said that unlicensed medicine shops have been mushrooming in rural areas of this district in which they have been selling of duplicate and substandard medicines with the knowledge of drug control officials. One racket was in active to supply substandard medicines and charged the price on original rate from the patients. Besides, many unlicensed shops have been opened in rural areas of this district by the kinwodgle drug control officials.
By the directive of state drug controller Mr Anada Sankar Das , one drug control squad has been pressed into service to unearth unlicensed medicine shops in this district. Squad led by drug inspector Mr Anjan Kumar Sahoo raided on different medicine shops of this district and seized 6 illegal medicine shops in Balikuda and Jagatsinghpur areas. Five medicine shops were opened in front of Dasbatia primary hospital under Balikuda police station in which these shop owners have been sold substandard and fake medicines to the patients and another shop at Galupada under Jagatsinghpur police limit has been seized by squad on Friday.
Meanwhile, cases have been registered against unlicensed medicine shop owners Ranjan Mohanty, Niarnjan Sathpaty, Chinmay Mohanty, Ranjan Panda and Pratap Das of Dasbatia area under Balikuda police limit and Ananda Prasad Mohapatra of Galupada area near sub divisional judicial magistrate, Jagatsinghpur. Similarly, squad has collected fake drug samples from 35 alleged medicines in which these samples have been sent to Drug Testing Laboratory, Bhubaneswar and Lucknow to ascertain the fake or not for drug testing.
Drug Inspector Mr Sahoo has expressed that nearly licensed 550 medicine retailers and distributors have been opening in Jagatsinghpur district. Besides this, many unlicensed medicine shops have been mushrooming in rural areas so steps have been taken to take action against unlicensed shops and selling of fake medicines.
