Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: The dawn to dusk Bharath Bandha called by BJP led NDA and its allied parties including few left parties and state ruling BJD on Thursday protesting union government’s unhealthy decision hiking petrol price, passed off peaceful in Jagatsinghpur district, while report said that the Bandh was spontaneous, government offices both central and state, commercial banks , insurance companies, business establishments, transport services including Rail and Road were put to an halt for entire day supporting this stir.
While sources said as the Bandha was called by separate political parties as consequence BJD, BJP and left parties had organized unconnectedly, BJD took out a protest rally from town outskirts and covered entire town and culminated at Thhana Chhak here and held a protest meeting and district BJD leaders speaking on the occasion criticized union government and called to roll back the decision increasing the petrol price. Moreover BJP supporters and left parties as CPI, SP, BSP RJD, and sympathizers had organized protest meetings separately in different places and demanded immediate withdrawal of climbing petrol price and burnt effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairman Sonia Gandhi.
Police had made elaborate arrangements in the wake of Bharat Bandha, police patrolling, deployment of police personnel in several places were intensified as the Bandha was sponatnious, no untoward incident reported so far across the district during the agitation, police said.
