Report by Kanhu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: Renowned woman freedom fighter Maa Rama Devi was remembered in her 27 death anniversary in a function organized by Saraswata Parishad a cultural outfit here on Sunday.
Commemorating the occasion a public meeting held in district headquarters, Parishad president Himansu Acharya presided the function and attended by several personalities from locality, speakers attending function highlighted manifold activities of departed first woman freedom fighter Maa Ram Devi and her efforts during pre freedom movement uniting women to fight against the then British ruler, being a daughter in law from a conservative Zamidar family her inclination was simplicity and simple living and, she had left affluent life and joined country’s freedom movement being inspired in the ideology of father of nation Mahatma Gandhi and had imprisoned several times after independency she had opted serving Odihsa’s downtrodden and poor people especially for women, so the present generation should follow her beliefs and principles in their live, speakers paid their remembrance speech during the meeting. Earlier Parishad members had paid floral tribute in the statue of Maa Rama Devi locates inside municipality office here.
