Report by Amarnath Parida; Jagatsinghpur: Thousands of women under the banner of the Odisha Green Card Holder Women’s Association (OGHWA) demonstrated mass rally and agitation in Jagatsinghpur collecotrate office on Monday to full their various demands before 14th August otherwise they have threatened to intensify their stir in big way on 15th August for the Independence of women.
To check the population, government had introduced green card scheme since 35 years back. Being convinced, lakhs of women had undergone operation not to deliver their child having one or two child norm to get benefit under this scheme. After this operation, these women had been lost their maternity for the sake of benefits from the government. It is a matter of regret that these women have been completely neglected and humiliated because nothing has been given to these green card holders.
Besides this, this association has been intensified stir from district to state level to press their demands near state government but no steps have been taken to fulfill their demands. Their demands include land for the homeless green card holders, financial assistance for the unemployed among them, reservation for their children and 40 per cent discount on railways & bus tickets and other demands.
Earlier, the women activists of this association conducted meeting at town hall in which thousands of women congregated to success their agitation. Mr Gitanjali Swain, district unit president of this association presided over the meeting and vowed to intensify their stir unless their demands are not being fulfilled by the state government.
President of OGHWA Mr. Laxmi Devi has strongly criticized BJD ruling government for neglecting these green card holders since 12 years as this government is also ruling since 12 years. This government is only crying crocodile tears for the plight of women but no steps have been taken for the development of women.
‘We have been given 14th August as deadline to the state government to fulfill our demands otherwise we have determined to struggle movement for the Independence of women from 15th August to achieve our goal’- Devi added.
This association took out mass rally from town hall to collector office in which thousands of green card holders participated in this rally. Women activists intensified stir at Jagatsinghpur and also gave memorandum to the Chief Minister of Odisha Mr. Naveen Patnaik through the district collector.
Secretary of Cuttack district unit Mrs Ramadevi Sahu, secretary of Nayagarh Mrs Jhunu Prusty, secretary of Jagatsinghpur district association Saubhagini Sahu and other women activists also participated in this agitation.
