Report by Manoranjan Routray; Koraput: "We have an age-old tradition of honest governance which our national emblems reaffirm. That tradition is part of our identity. And I know that for every corrupt person there are many more that are honest. We must add to their number", Said Justice Smt Ruma Pal, Honorable former Judge, Supreme Court of India.
She said this at the second Convocation ceremony of Central University of Orissa, Koraput on 29th July 2012. Further she quoted the lines of Swami Vivekananda, "if the room is dark, the constant feeling and repeating of darkness will not take it away, but bring in the light. Let us know that all that is negative, all that is destructive, all that is mere criticism, is bound to pass away; it is the positive, the affirmative, the constructive that is immortal, that will remain forever". The 2nd convocation ceremony of Central University of Orissa held at Bhanja Mandap Auditorium in HAL campus at Sunabeda in Koraput district. Justice Smt Ruma Pal was the Chief Guest of the convocation ceremony. Mrs. Vibha Puri Das (IAS), secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India was on the dais as Guest of Honour. Prof. (Dr.) Surabhi Banarjee, the vice Chancellor, was presided over the Convocation. The vice chairman in her speech once again this year too assured that steps have been taken for establishing Medical college & Hospital to take Medicare of the people in KBK region. Formal initiatives have been taken by Central University of Orissa at the appropriate level for establishing a low-cost hospital as a part of the University infrastructure she added. Degree of Honoris Causa was conferred an eminent persons in the fields of science and literature. They are Padma Bhusan Prof. Bikash Sinha, Padma Shri Prof. Anil Kumar Gupta and Smt. Annapurna Maharana. Prof. Sinha is an internationally acclaimed Scientist, Prof. Gupta is a member of the National Innovation Foundation, and Smt. Annapurna Maharana is a freedom fighter and noted social worker of Odisha. Six students Mr. Arun Kumar Raj, M.A. in Odia, Miss. Archana Nayak, M.A. in English, Miss. Moushumi Nayak, M.Sc. in Anthropology, Miss. Arupama Senapaty, M.A. in Sociology, Mr. Priyaranjan Swain and Mr. Sudarshan Sahoo, M.A. in J&MC awarded Gold medals and 111 Masters Degree students were awarded their degrees at the Convocation.
