Report by Basant Rath; Nabarangpur: An elected BJD ward member was shot dead by Maoists who suspected him to be a police informer in Nabarangpur district. of Odisha on Thursday.

According to reports a group of extremists went to the house of Rahidas Gond (35)  of Raipur village under  Khuduku Panchayat of Raighar block,  was called from his house  by three persons around 1 PM  and forced him to accompany them. They reportedly shot him dead on the out skirts of village.

The Mainpur division of the CPI (Maoist), operating in the border areas of Odisha and Chhatisgarh, later claimed responsibility for the killing saying Gonda was helping the police about their movements in the area.
