Report by OD bureau, Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of United Nations international day for Natural Disaster Reduction day observation, National Institute of Disaster management awarded 15 School safety plans of India today. The school safety plan of Kalapada High School , Kalapada,Kendrapada facilitated by People’s Cultural Centre (PECUC) a leading voluntary Organization of Odisha has been awarded in a grand function organized by National Institute of disaster management and national Disaster Management Authority at India International Centre, New Delhi.
Mrs. Anuradha Mohanty, Executive Director, PECUC that took lead role in facilitating the plan with the support of Save the Children received the Award in the function. Amongst others Shri A.K.Manotra,Secretary(BM),Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, Dr Muzaffar Ahmad,Hon’bleMember,NDMA,ShriT.NandaKumar, Member,NDMA, Prof Santosh Kumar,NIDM,Dr Satendra,NIDM Spoke on the Occasion. Keeping in view of School safety and to strengthen school level disaster preparedness activities; the government of India is encouraging the development of School safety plans. The NIDM functioning under National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has recently invited proposals nation wide on school safety plans for giving Award. Out of 75 entries received by NIDM 15 plans are selected for the Award.
