Odisha: NSUI sweeps Angul &Talcher college elections
Friday, October 19, 2012
Report by Bikram Parida, Angul: After the grueling campaign of almost 10 days, today the elections in colleges of Angul district were held without a single incidence of violence being reported. The much awaited colege election results were notified at 3:30pm. NSUI the student wing of Indian National Congress swept the same. Smarak Dehuri supported by NSUI was elected as Angul Collage president. The Gen.Secy, the Secy.(Dramatics), the Secy. (Athletics) etc were all won by NSUI supported candidates. Similarly Talcher Collage too reported a clean win by all the NSUI supported candidates.

It is surprising to see the congress do so well in a zone where neither the Municipal Council and nor is the Zilaparishad are with the Congress. Angul district does not have a single Congress MLA nor is the MP of the Congress party. It is to be specially noted that the MLA of Angul has not too long back been inducted into the Council of Ministers in the Naveen Patnaik Government. Despite the active intervention of all theBJD  MLAs, the BJD MP & the entire BJD mechanism, exceptional performance by the congress student wing in Angul has become the talk of the area.

The NSUI Angul District president Sudip Mishra congratulated all the candidates for their victory. He said that he is grateful to Shri. Rahul Gandhi, Shri. Suparno Satpathy, Shri. L.B Mahapatra, Shri. Chinmoy Sahoo and others for their blessings, guidance and support. He attributed the sweeping win of NSUI to the said leaders and also to all the students who voted in favor of NSUI candidates.

A few intellectuals of Angul  under anonymity told this reporter that these collage election results are a strong indication for Naveen Patnaik that now the youth of Angul is not with the BJD anymore.
