Report by Akshya Rout, Jajpur: Police have arrested on Monday a self proclaimed Sadhu and one of his disciples on the alleged charges of slitting  the throat of a three years old child to collect blood to make an amulet (Taweez)  to get hidden wealth in village  Sarangapur  under Kuakhia  police station in Jajpur district .

As per the advise of a Sadhu, Hanuman Baba alias Durodhan Ojha (60) of Khasalapur village, one Sashikanta Rout of Sarangapur village slit the throat of Ritesh Rout (3) son of Santosh  Rout  on 9th October while the child was playing near a temple in village  Sarangapur .  The injured child is now undergoing treatment in the SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack, said B.K. Aiech the police officer of Kuakhia police station.

The incident created sensation in the village and villagers blocked to road recently  to protest against the slipshod attitude of the police to arrest the accused persons.

During the two week long, investigation , police managed to solve the case by arresting the self proclaimed Sadhu and Sashikanta Rout .

After collecting blood of the child in a pot, Sashikanta offered the blood to Sadhu who prepared an amulet by soaking with the blood of the child for  Sashikanta  who put this amulet on his left arm to get some hidden treasure , added the police officer.

Both the arrested persons were booked under section- 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC . On Monday, they were produced in the local court. The court rejected their bail applications and remanded them in jail custody, said the police officer.
