Orissa: Noted Artist Baisnab Satpathy gets Guru Surendra Nath Samman

Report by Orissa Diary correspondent; Bhadrak: Noted Odissi dancer, Guru Surendra Nath Jena's third death anniversary has been celebrated at Bhadrak town hall. In this grand function eminent Jatra Artist Baisnab Charana Satpathy honoured with Guru Surendra Nath Samman 2010 along with cash prize of Rs 5000.

Chief Guest of this function Sahitya academy award winner Sudhakar Nanda said "during his period few knows about Odissi dance. Guru Surendra Nath fought hard to make people know the eloquent charm of Odissi. For his deed Guru Surendra always remain with us". This Years Awardee Baisnab Satpathy said "for Surendra Nath of Odissi dance was not a profession, but was his soul. This passion brought him laurels from India and abroad. He devoted his entire life for his dance."

Trustee Pratap Chandra Pradhan said "on behalf of Guru Surendra Nath trust for last three years we felicitate one person who achieved fiat in the field of dance and music." This function was presided by Achyuta Samal. At end of the function of Odissi performed by local artists. Among other dignitaries trustee Rama Jena Pradhan and trust board member Jitendra Kumar Nayak were present.
