Report by OD bureau; New Delhi: Odia film maker and director Nila Madhab Panda's second film "Jalpari-The Desert Mermaid", which deals with the issue of female foeticide invited for competition in the 2012 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
Like I Am Kalam it is also a children's cinema where Lehar Khan, Krishang Trivedi and Harsh Mayar (who won the National Film Awards for the best child artist in 2011) are on lead as child artists and Parvin Dabas, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Rahul Singh, Suhasini Mulay and V.M. Badola are on supporting roles.
The film revolves around the life of a 12 year-old-girl . The film will tackle issues like increasing water scarcity and the skewed child sex ratio through the children's viewpoint. Recently this film was shown at the Cannes Film Festival market section.
