Report by Santanu Ganguly, New Delhi: The Sony Pictures film Resident Evil-Retribution which is slated to release this week will see many familiar faces. The old cast and the popular characters of the franchise return with this fifth film. The creativity and innovation of the film’s director Paul W.S. Anderson prompted this move. The world of Umbrella Corporation which is always evolving when comes up with clones of Alice; the move gives push to the idea of having return of the old casts. The characters like Rain, One, Jill, Carlos, Luther West and Albert Wesker that were crushed by the brutal fate in the earlier films are back with a bang in this one.
 
Says Anderson, “It’s exciting for us and we hope, for the fans to have these actors and their characters back. It was a unique opportunity to work with everyone again.” The cast which is back is equally excited for the film as the thrill gets doubled and adding more to the audience experience will be the release of the film in 3D.
 
Popular character of Rain which is played by Michelle Rodriguez says, “I’m really happy to be back. I didn’t think there’d ever be a possibility of bringing back my character. But there’s always an open window when you’re dealing with science fiction. The possibilities are endless. I’m really happy we have a director who is so creative.”
 
Similar are the views of the other casts who make a comeback. Sienna Guillory who returns once again as Jill Valentine says, “On these films, you’re part of a team and the support is incredible. Milla is the most giving actress to work with and Paul has a limitless imagination. I felt like I had come home.”          Oded Fehr, familiar to audiences as Carlos Olivera, a member of the Umbrella forces special commando unit says that his return makes perfect sense. “If you can have a hundred Alices, why not have more Carloses, Ones and Rains?” he asks.
 
Talking about the bond developed between Alice and Luther West in Resident Evil: Afterlife, Actor Boris Kodjoe says, “They had an amazing partnership in the last movie. But she believes that he’s gone and it’s a nice surprise for her to find out he’s not. When they meet again, there’s obvious relief on both sides, as well as excitement that they are going to embark on a new adventure.” While Actor Colin Salmon believes the return of his character One, who is an archetypal soldier, is reinvigorating. And with this film returns the biggest villain of the game Albert Wesker which is played by Shawn Roberts. “Albert Wesker will not stay in the background. He’s decided to take top position. I rule the world and it feels pretty good to be sitting at the top,” says Roberts.
 
However, the concept of comeback has an added flavor of intrigue as the characters developed in this part are sure to make the audience wonder. Some characters might even be seen playing dual role like the character of Rodriguez or Fehr. Shawn Roberts’s character of that of a villain Albert Wesker which hardly ever spoke in the earlier films will now have a suspicious aura surrounding the character. “Sometimes Wesker seems like a James Bond type of villain, talking when he should just be killing people, and it was fun to use Shawn that way,” chips in Anderson.
 
The film envelopes more gun play and more fight and much attention was paid to selection of an appropriate actor to suit characters so as to retain the enthusiasm of the gamers. And with a comeback of the popular characters the film is sure to gain maximum numbers in its mark sheet from the audience. The film releases in India in Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu.
