Report by Ashok Palit; Bhubaneswar: US-based Odissi dancer Nilanjana Roy will perform 'Ranga Puja' - Odissi graduation ceremony - in the city. She is in the city of temples for her formal initiation into the classical dance form. Finance executive Nilanjana Roy, who learnt the art form at an Odissi dance school in San Francisco.
Ranga Puja, also know as 'manch prabesh', is an important event in the life of an Odissi dancer, when one formally performs on the stage under the guidance of their guru. Nilanjana, . who is also trained in Kathak dance and Rabindra Sangeet.
Nilanjana who is performs 'Krushnastaka', 'Mudra Pallavi', 'Biswa Veena', 'Durga Stutee' and 'Mokshya' at Jaydev Bhawan not able to mark as the audience excepted, now in her thirties had a knack for Odissi since her childhood. But it was only four years ago that she came to know of Jyoti Kala Mandir, a reputed Odissi classical dance school in her neighborhood in San Francisco.
