Bhubaneswar: The four-day cultural extravaganza, Sanjukta-Raghunath Panigraghi festival of dance and music got underway at Rabindra Mandap here with eminent ghazal singer A Hariharan enthralling the audience with scintillating performance.
The event is being organised by the newly-floated Sanjukta and Raghunath Panigrahi Cultural Heritage Foundation with the support of the Tourism Department of Odisha. Hariharan started with the song ‘Umar bhar Pachhtaogi tum mujhko thukrane ke bad’ which received a rapturous applause from the audience. Dedicating his performance to ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh who passed away recently, the two-time National award winner next rendered a ghazal ‘Shama ke saath jalo’.
The event was inaugurated by veteran vocalist Raghunath Panigrahi as Union Minister Ramesh who was originally scheduled to inaugurate the event could not make it today due to a sudden change of programme. Culture and Tourism Secretary Ashok Tripathy and managing trustee of the foundation Babu Panigrah, elder son of the celebrated artistes’ couple – musician Raghunath Panihrahi and legendary Odissi dancer Sanjukta Panigrahi were present on the occasion be hosted at Rabindra Mandap The annual festival apart, the foundation has resolved to institute four annual awards in the name of the couple, he added.
