Bhubaneswar: Music albums of noted Odia vocalist Susmita Das released at the 43rd Odisha Society of America (OSA) Convention at Seattle in United States.
The albums were released in the presence of OSA president Annapurna Pandey, Lalatendu Mansingh, Pratap Das and several other eminent Odias and dignitaries. Das performed an enthralling live show on the occasion.
The first album, Radio Days is an anthology of radio songs created by the doyen of Odia music Akshaya Mohanty and legendary lyricist Devdas Chhotray in the 1960s. It comprises 18 evergreen songs in a set of two CDs. The original composition of most of these songs are not available today even in the archives of All India Radio, Cuttack for which reason the album will regenerate interest in a genre of Odia music.
The second album — Rubai — is an Odia adaptation of Edward Fitzgerald’s Rubaiyat written by Omar Khyyam. The album comprises a short film and a musical CD with narration by Devdas Chhotray. Das’ rendition brings out the emotion of the 12th century classic. A film made by Biyot Projna Tripathy was appreciated.
Das’ album Mayadarpan — a collection of the writings of Mayadhar Mansingh, was released at the OSA Convention in 2007 at Detroit in US. Acclaimed composer of All India Radio and award winning music director Omprakash Mohanty scored the music for the two albums.
