Odisha: Rain Invoked In Music & Dance On The 2nd Evening of Megha Utsav

Report by OD bureau; Bhubaneswar: The second evening of Megha Utsav commenced with the renderings of Odissi Music by Guru Bijay Kumar Jena. From the traditional composition and from Rashika Harabali of Kavi Samrat Upendra Bhanja, Guru Jena invoked rain. The next item was Odissi Raganga and Chhanda  presented by Mohapatra Minati Bhanja. Singing from the immortal compositions of the medieval odia poets, Ms. Bhanja enthralled the audience and greeted the monsoon. 

Next item was Barsha Varnali and Barsha Vishara by the artistes of Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneswar. The cycle of rain is connected to the very cycle of life. Rain is symbol of new life, re-generation, love and romance. Such spirit of the rain got reflected in the dance of Odisha Dance Academy. The last programme was Bhojpuri Songs and Dances by Ajay Dube and Group from Patna, Bihar. The artistes welcomed the advent of rain with songs and dance narrating the hopes and asperation that the monsoon brings. Jijiya, Kajari and Sohar Pawaria made the audience dance to the rhythm of Bhojpuri artistes.

The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Shri Prafulla Samal, Former Minister, Tourism, Culture & Cooperation; Smt. Kumkum Mohanty, Eminent Odissi Dancer, Shri Sarat Chandra Mishra, Ex. DG, Police, Shri Sanjeeb Hota, Ex. State Election Commission, Shri H. S. Upadhyay, Director, Tourism; Dr. Sarat Pujari, President, OSNA and Shri Chitta Ranjan Mallia, Secretary, OSNA; Shri Bijaya Nayak, Secretary, Odisha Sahitya Akademy; Shri Rabi Rath, Secretary, Lalit Kala Akademy; Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra and Guru Laxmikant Palit. The programme was compered by Dr. Mrutyunjaya Rath and Najia Aallm.
